Got To Dig Deeper

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

Centuries ago in Texas, Two friends discovered a large deposit gold secretly hidden in a portion of land. They sold all their possessions and bought the land, hired equipment in readiness to explore and exploit the gold.

As they dug, they found the gold veil, which further assisted them in their digging to locate the actual deposit of Gold. After several days of digging, they lost the veil; thus they had to dig without the assistance of the veil. They dug for several days in futility, and at the end of it all, they lost courage to dig further, but they were persuaded there was gold there.

They finally resolved to abandon the project and sell off the land, at least reduce their losses. They sold the parcel of land to a “junk” who took off from where they stopped; he was not moved by the discouraging result but moved on. To his greatest surprise, the gold was just five feet from where they stopped. His fortune was changed, his life was changed.

Beloved, just like the gold is sought for from where it is hidden by the creator, so are treasures of God not found on the surface. The anointing of the Holy Spirit, the burden lifting, yoke destroying power of God are not found on the surface. It is kept for those who are willing to dig deep in seeking the Lord.

I have heard of many who desire to make great impact for God in the Kingdom but they are not willing to pay the price by digging deep. Please note that you cannot be much for God if you are not much with God. You must be found in His presence seeking His face. You must be like David who said as the deer pant after the waters so my soul longs after thee oh Lord. You cannot be a surface Christian and expect to make maximum impact in the Kingdom. Joshua before the Lord revealed to Moses that he would take over the leadership of Israel from him will always stay behind in God’s presence in the tabernacle when all others have left for their various tents. He was much with God, no wonder he possessed the land.

He was among the two who brought a good report from the land he and eleven others went to spy. He had stayed long enough to understand the workings of God. He understood God. Beloved, do you know and understand God?2king 2:1–15 narrates the story of Elisha, a man who was ready to pay the price for knowing and having the power of God. He was ready to dig deeper than other sons of the prophet, Elijah told him as they embark on their journey from Gilgal

2 king 2:2-3 reads please stay here in Gilgal for the Lord has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you” so they went down to Bethel. The sons of the Prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know they the Lord Will take away your master from over you today?” And he said, “Yes, I know, keep silent!”

These scenarios continued from bethel to Jericho, Jericho to Jordan where Elijah parted the river Jordan and they both walked past on dry ground. As they crossed, fifty sons of the prophet watched their colleague Elisha crossed over to the other side. They were not willing to dig deep. As soon as Elisha crossed over in verse 9-10 Elijah asked him, what may I do for you before I am taken away from you?” And Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me. So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall so for you, but if not, it shall not be so’’.

I believe that we know the story, he saw Elijah as he was taken and he got the double portion of the anointing. Beloved, as he crossed back from the other side of Jordan, the same sons of the prophet who were not willing to dig deep but could only give the information that his master shall be taken from him soon met him as he came and they bowed down to him. They knew they were no longer mates, as they were before he crossed over with Elijah. Elisha was now a changed man; he had dug deeper then them all and now the spirit of Elijah rest on him.

Beloved, things that takes our time and will not allow us to be in Gods presence to dig deep such as spending hours behind the television, unnecessary and uncoordinated outings, unnecessary gistings which takes our time at the expense of being in God presence will not allow us access to the hidden treasures of God in good time, that is if we ever get it. We must be disciplined with our time, sleep, and recreation e.t.c to make the best of who God desires us to be. All these things might not be sinful, but may serves as weights. Remember the saying of Paul; all things are lawful but not all things helpful.

You cannot always depend on people to tell you the mind of God, you must find out yourself, remember, you have the mind of Christ, the superior mind. You cannot be a surface Christian and expect to make maximum impact in the kingdom. Friend, you must dig deep down where the treasures of the kingdom lie. Join me as we dig deeper. Shalom.
