Conquer Yourself

Many are the desires within a man’s heart. Just like the waters cover the sea so are the many desires of man. Economic scholars made it clear to us that the wants of man are insatiable. Have you ever thought of it that a man may own half of the world yet not satisfied until he owns the whole world; after which he probably begins to look at the heavens to own. Man ordinarily can never be satisfied. A man that conquers the whole world will sooner or later look for something else to conquer. A man may have all the money, wealth, influence he never dreamt of at the beginning of his journey in life, however as soon as they are all acquired he begins to look for more.

Most of the times we fail to realize that the greatest conquest a man can have is the conquest of his soul. If you have not conquered yourself, then you are but a failure no matter what you have conquered in life. Conquering oneself can however be achieved only by means that is through the death and acceptance of Jesus sacrifice on the cross of Calvary. Satisfaction in life can only be gotten in Christ, for He is the giver of satisfaction. Friends, you need to conquer yourself if at all you can amount to anything in God and in life. The only way to conquer yourself is through Christ.

Herod the King did not conquer himself and he died a cheap death. His people saw him and began to praise him attributing to him the glory of God, which hebeing a mortal man took upon himself and he died before his time

Act 12:20-23 reads, “And the people kept shouting,” The voice of a god and not a man”! Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. Beloved, Herod the king was eaten by worms because he would not conquer himself.

It is true, people may praise and applause you, some may even amplify what is done through you by God to make you believe there is no one else like you on earth, please do not fall for this trap of the devil. It is for people to talk, but it is for you place whatever they say within its limits. Do you remember Nebuchadnezzar the King of Babylon of old? He could not conquer himself also and he was humbled by God to the point of eating grass of the field.

Dan.4:30-31 reads. “The King spoke saying “Is not this great Babylon that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honour of my majesty? “While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fall from heaven: King Nebuchadnezzar to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you. The kingdom was taken away from him because he would no longer handle what God was doing through him.

Hence he thought it was by his own strength he achieved all that was done. Always remember you are but a clay in the hands of the most High and He does whatever he wishes with the clay just like the clay in the hand of the potter hence let no clay attribute for itself what the potter makes of him because it is not its doing.

Samson also refused to conquer himself. His strong desire towards strange women was not tailored in line with the promises of God for him. Just as it is no big deal to be tempted but it becomes a sin when you fall into temptation, God has promised us that He will not allow us to be tempted beyond our strength; even at that He will also provide a way of escape. It now depends on you and I to either take the way of escape or go headlong into the sin. Samson killed the lion with his bare hands, and killed one thousand Philistine soldiers with the jaw-bone of an ass. He conquered the enemies of Israel and he became their judge but quiet unfortunately, he would not conquer himself in the area of lustfulness after strange women. As a result what he could not conquer eventually conquered him. Always note beloved that whatever in your life you refuse to subdue and line with God’s word will eventually conquer you. However, remember at the same time that you cannot conquer on your own without the One who conquered death, living on the inside of you. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runs into it and they are saved. You cannot run for safety anywhere without you being in Christ. Do you have an area of your life that is yet to be conquered? Then reach out for Jesus. Pray right now and request of Him to help you. He has promised before now to help you Isa 41:10 and I am sure he cannot deny Himself. Reach out to Him Now! Please conquer yourself. Shalom!
